He obtained top score of leading European mucosal immunologists in a worldwide peer judgment carried out by the US National Academy of Sciences 'Immunology Benchmarking Panel' in 1998. He has published over 600 papers in the field of mucosal immunology, member of Editorial Boards for 8 international journals, Honory Doctor at the University of Bergen and Freie Universität Berlin, and regarded as one of the top scientists in the field of mucosal immunology in the world.
