Pressrelease October 2002.

At the end of 2002, Eurocine received funding from the European Union for the development of nasal vaccines.

Eurocine, which offers novel adjuvants for nasal delivery of vaccines, is joined in the CRAFT (Co-operative Research Action for Technology) project by OptiNose from Oslo, Norway and Diabact from Uppsala, Sweden. OptiNose is developing a new device for the administration of vaccines to the nose and Diabact is developing powder formulations. The project has an overall budget of Euro 1.7 million, half of which is provided by the EU and the remainder by the three participating companies.

Coordinator of the project is Dr. Ulf Schröder, CEO of Eurocine.

Commencing in spring 2003, the project will involve a Phase I/II study with a nasal tri-valent Diptheria/Tetanus/Pertussis vaccine on the efficacy of the Eurocine adjuvant and a simultaneous comparative study between classic spray containers and the OptiNose device. The project will then progress to developing nasal vaccines against influenza, tuberculosis and Hanta-virus causing renal disease.
